The Angus Valley Montessori Schools Difference

What makes Angus Valley Montessori Schools different

“Montessori is an education for independence, preparing not just for school, but for life.”
- Dr. Maria Montessori

What we believe

Our philosophy

Our mission is to provide each child in our care with a safe and nurturing learning environment where they receive the best possible foundation, on every level, so that they are inspired for a lifetime of learning and achievement. We are dedicated to providing working parents with reliable and supportive child care in a building custom designed by professionals who are fluent in creating physical spaces for younger age groups.

Humans are born to learn and will do so throughout their lives. We offer a caring and supportive environment to nurture and stimulate this natural inclination, encouraging development by introducing learning opportunities that enrich each child's natural abilities and talents every day.

Curriculum

A unique curriculum

AVM Schools offers a customized curriculum that employs Montessori philosophy and learning materials in combination with Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences, enriched by the exploration of art, music and movement, and play.

Our Educators observe each child in their care to assist them to learn naturally. AVM Schools takes a holistic approach to early learning, recognizing the connection between body, mind, and spirit.

Design philosophy

Buildings designed around Montessori

Core elements of Maria Montessori's method are rooted into the design of every Angus Valley Montessori Schools location: simplicity, minimalism, organization, accessibility, security and silence.

Natural and muted colours create a sense of calm, with light wood tones and thoughtfully incorporated biophilic design elements throughout each school.

Safety & cleanliness

A safe and secure environment is a priority

Monitored access

Parents and staff are issued entry fobs and doors remain locked at all times, with security cameras inside the school and in outdoor playgrounds.

Enhanced cleaning

Daily enhanced cleaning and the Ecolab sanitization system, with touchless faucets in all washrooms and classrooms.

Professional services

We contract professional cleaners and a global leader in hygiene services, rather than relying on teaching staff for building upkeep.

Healthy eating

Chef-prepared meals, every day

Hot lunches and snacks are prepared in our kitchens following Executive Chef Guillermo Russo's monthly menus, posted for parents to see. We accommodate special diets and allergies, and our schools have a nut-free policy.

Chef Russo, a graduate of McGill University and Le Cordon Bleu Paris with experience at Pusateri's Fine Foods, Oliver & Bonacini, and the Gordon Ramsay Group, developed Angus Valley Montessori Schools' custom menus and nutritious recipes, sourced through our supply arrangement with family-owned Longo's.

Physical activity, every day

Every AVM School has secure, private, age-appropriate outdoor playgrounds which students enjoy twice daily, inspected annually by a Canadian Certified Playground Inspector, with additional daily staff inspections prior to classroom use.

Our name

Angus Valley: rooted in history, growth, and exploration

“Angus” is a Celtic word meaning ‘one choice,’ chosen to reflect our goal to become parents' premier choice for early learning. “Valley” reflects Montessori teachings' focus on nature. “Angus Valley” creates a strong connection to both the land and the location of our first school in the Angus Glen Community, Markham, Ontario.
